The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Design & Innovation) Programme was initially offered during the 2003/2004 academic session. It is based on mechanical engineering with a specialization in the area of design and innovation. Design is one of the fundamental areas in engineering field. It is essential for this area follow the fast pace of technological changes in order to fulfill the industry needs.

The design area is correlated with the innovation area in a way to produce a variety of new products as well as to enhance the existing products. The evolution of computer software has been a great assistance for the students to design new products effectively and innovatively. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, Alias, ADAMS and MSC.Nastran are among the computer softwares that are commonly used by the students to help them to draft the blueprints for their potential products. Apart from that, the students are also exposed to the model and prototype development process by utilizing the new and modernized machines.

Besides the product design aspect, this programme also covers up the research of the product in terms of reliability, quality, optimization and product analysis. In order to wrap up the whole product manufacturing process, this programme will emphasize on the knowledge in the product management so that the experiences gathered from the conceptual design stage to the product processing stage until the delivery of finished product would be beneficial to the students. The knowledge covers the research from various aspects such as the design concept, product quality, and product process smoothness based on the consumer needs factor and the market as well.
